988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

Last updated Jun 2026

About

988 is the national Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, free and available 24/7 by phone, text, or chat for anyone in emotional distress or a suicidal crisis, or worried about someone else. Call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org. You do not have to be suicidal to reach out. One honest note: the dedicated LGBTQ+ specialized service (the press 3 option) was discontinued in July 2025, and a replacement is uncertain, so the general line is what to count on right now. For trans-specific peer support, Trans Lifeline at 877-565-8860 is another option.
